Victories over East Kilbride, Brechin Vics and Largs Thistle have seen the Burgh go on an extended run which is the envy of many of their peers, but boss Colin Smith insists they aren’t done with the cup yet.

He said: “It’s exciting, really exciting to be a part of.

“The boys have done so well and it has been great to get this far. However I believe we have what it takes to go even further.

“We have shown this season what we are capable of doing and Lesmahagow is a winnable tie if it goes ahead, we will be targeting a win and a spot in the fifth round.” Preparation for the trip to Craighead Park haven’t been ideal, with the weather putting paid to Saturday’s clash with Glasgow Perthshire and preventing Burgh from overcoming the disappointment of last weekend’s 5-0 defeat to Rossvale.

Smith added: “The mood in the camp is very good in my opinion but I don’t know if the boys were just a bit nervous heading into the game and that is what affected them with Rossvale.

“But we have no complaints about the scoreline, we were bad, I don’t often say that but we were really bad.” Progress in the Scottish Cup would cap a so-far successful season for Burgh, with the Keanie Park side sitting just outside the promotion spots, and with several games in hand over their rivals.

Smith has previously formed part of several successful Burgh sides, but insists this season’s squad ranks up there with the best he has seen in the red and white.

He said: “The squad we have this year is very strong. In Jason Hardie we have a striker who is just scoring goals for fun.

“Jason is probably the best striker we have had at the club since Conor Ramsey, who was lethal in his time here.

“Then we have the experienced guys in midfield who have upped their game, and the defence has tightened up in my opinion, so we are a formidable force right now with the current squad that we have at the club.”
