To kick things off we focus upon the curious case of Alfons Lesz. The Pole signed on at Love Street from Highland League side Forres Mechanics in August 1947, having impressed for Polish side Polonia FC in a trial game in Paisley during that summer.
Under the stewardship of then Saints boss Bobby Rankin, outside left Lesz would stay in Paisley for five years before departing Down South for a new challenge with Worcester City.
With 48 goals across the years, Lesz endeared himself to the Saints faithful, leaving him ranked 40th in St Mirren’s all-time goal scoring charts.
