Paul Lambert may have been given the bullet by Premier League side Aston Villa little over a fortnight ago, but cast your mind back to the once youthful talent plying his trade in front of the Love Street masses.

Pictured here in 1989, Lambert made his breakthrough under Alex Miller in 1986, before going on to lift the Scottish Cup as a 17-year-old only a year later.

Lambert would stay at the Buddies until 1993, racking up 211 appearances and 15 goals over the course of his eight year stint.

Further success would follow for the midfielder at Motherwell, before achieving his career highlight with a Champions League winners medal with Borussia Dortmund in 1996.

Lambert produced a man of the match performance against the might of Juventus, as unfancied Dortmund overcame the odds to see off the Italian giants 3-1, with Lambert marking Zinedine Zidane out of the game.

A move to Celtic followed before Lambert moved into management with Livingston, Wycombe Wanderers, Colchester United, Norwich City and Villa.
