Frew could only muster a 1-1 draw away to Vale of Clyde on Saturday, leaving them nine points off league leaders, and Saturday’s opponents, Bellshill Athletic.

Consolidating was always the aim in the Renfrew camp following last year’s relegation. But with a new stadium fast approaching and sitting third place in the league, Ferry admits confidence is growing.

He said: “We aren’t going to sit here and tell people that we aren’t targeting promotion.

“I would be lying if I said that this season wasn’t all about staying up and steadying the ship for moving in to the new ground but I think we have surprised ourselves a little.

“We will keep playing to win games and see where that takes us, but we need to start picking up wins on the bounce if we are to go straight back up.” Renfrew now prepare to take on Brian McGinty’s Bellshill at Keanie Park on Saturday. McGinty brings a 100 per cent win record to the reckoning having taken over from new Arthurlie boss Robert Downs last month.

Two 3-1 wins show signs of encouragement for the table toppers, but Ferry hopes to halt their foes in their tracks.

He added: “They have a really good squad and the big pitch at Vale of Clyde will suit them.

“It should be a good game providing it beats the weather and hopefully we can produce a good enough display to come back with a win.”
