Work is well under way at Frew’s new ground at Blythswood Estate, with the club hopefully moving in within the next month. Poor weather conditions prevented the new pavilion being erected, but work is nearing completion.

Clark said: “It has been a long time coming and it has got to be positive for the club.

“It is great to see the whole thing coming together, it gives the club a base that it so badly needs and the only way is up for the side.” Frew departed Western Park at the end of last season and the old ground has since been demolished due to damage caused by the recent poor weather.

Having spent a large chunk of his playing career at the ground, Clark admits the happiness of finally moving is tinged with sadness at seeing the ground go.

He added: “I played a lot of football there.

“It just seems to be the way that football is going. The good old junior grounds are disappearing but it has to be the right step.

“Maybe it is a bit soulless and not very atmospheric but it is the way that we have to go.

“Once the social club went away that was when Western Park started to struggle with crowds, you couldn’t attract folk through the door, hopefully the new facilities will see people return.”
