Saturday’s 2-0 victory at home to Maryhill continues an impressive run which has seen the New Western Park side win three on the bounce.

Frew now face a tricky fixture away to Larkhall Thistle this weekend, and Clark is clear when he claims no one is getting carried away.

He told Gazette Sport: “We are doing ok but I still think the players are yet to hit top form.

“Beating Maryhill on Saturday was a great result against a good side but the boys need to build on that and continue their performances.

“It’s a long hard season and there are plenty of games left. You can’t judge anything after only three games but at the same time we are obviously happy with how things are going.” This season marks Frew’s second in the third flight. They suffered a disappointing year last campaign, without a permanent base.

However, with a new stadium and some new players added to the ranks Clark insists the club needs to look to move forward this year.

He added: “The league is extremely competitive with evey side probably thinking they are capable of being successful this season.

“The sides that have come up look like they are doing well, while those who have come down have good experience of this division already.

“Last season was more a year to consolidate, as we actually looked to avoid back to back relegations which a lot of teams suffer from.

“We ended up sixth, which is probably where we thought we would be, but we were disappointed with that in the end.

“We need to look to improve on that this year, we have everything in place now to have a good year and I don’t see why we can’t at least challenge.” Clark reserved praise for his defence who have been in inspired form so far this campaign.

Frew have only conceded one goal so far this season, and the gaffer was quick to highlight their efforts.

He added: “You have to give credit to the guys at the back in the games we have played.

“You can score as many goals as you like but without a solid defence you wont win many games in this league.

“The guys have been in good form and hopefully they can perform like that on a consistent basis if we are going to compete at the right end of this division.”
