Renfrew moved four points clear at the top of the Central District First Division with a 1-0 win away at promotion rivals Rossvale.

The only goal of the match came early on as Frew frontman Darren Jones notched another goal, Jones has proved to be an astute mid-season acquisition from Yoker.

The result was given added importance as second-placed Wishaw were beaten 3-2 by Larkhall Thistle.

After going behind Rossvale then pulled themselves back into contention with some nice football. Both sides had some decent chances that weren’t taken, before the quality dropped considerably as the rain and wind increased.

The decent crowd that turned out at Petershill were still arriving when Renfrew took the lead. From a throw-in, the ball was sent high to the Rossvale back post and played back across penalty area. Darren Jones raced in at the corner of the six-yard box and smashed the ball home.

On 10 minutes, Rossvale nearly pulled level – a cross was played in and had a chance to pull themselves back onto level terms when a pacy ball was played into the Renfrew penalty area. Ross Hepburn raced in at the back post and touched just wide from eight yards. the ball proving to be a little too quick for a good connection.

Corey Irvine got the second half under way for Rossvale when his 25-yard strike sailed narrowly wide of the Renfrew goal. Team then connected with a massive punt from Jon Connolly in the Rossvale goal, but Burgess raced off his line and gathered before Team could make more of it.

Renfrew substitute Alain Kinney made an almost immediate impact on the match when he struck low and powerfully from the corner of the penalty area, forcing Connolly into a good diving save that he touched wide for a corner kick.

But one goal would be enough for Frew.
