Renfrew suffered their first league defeat of the season as Petershill ran out 2-1 winners at New Western Park on Saturday.

Peasy have been the most impressive side in the opening games of the Super League First Division. And they cemented their title favourites tag with another win that moves them six points clear at the top of the table.

But Frew will take heart from running their visitors close despite seeing Paddy O’Keefe sent off in the second half for two yellow cards.

The visitors went in front in the 25th minute when Luke Crerand was the first to react to a free-kick which bounced off the post.

Renfrew responded and went close to levelling when Jamie Docherty played in Scott Morton, his lobbed shot beat the goalkeeper but dropped on the wrong side of the post.

O’Keefe received his marching orders in the second half and Frew’s hopes looked to have faded.

But substitute David Quinn struck in the 82nd minute to put them on course for a valuable point.

But the lead would only last two minutes as former Clydebank midfielder Ian Gold grabbed the winner.
