The inaugural eight-team event was played in Renfrew due to the temporary closure of the Peak, Stirling Curling Hall.

Competitors travelled from far and wide to take to the ice.

After three days of round-robin competition Norway remained unbeaten on six wins — and face Sochi paralympic silver medallists Russia in the final round.

Russia on five wins and a draw, made it a winner takes all game in the final match Peels going into the last end, Russian skip Andrey Smirnov’s last stone was just too strong leaving Norway lying two shots and Rene Lorentsen not requiring to play his final stone.

A delighted Norwegian team was presented with plaques and Glengoyne whisky by Cecilia Fergusson, representing sponsor Fergusson Coal.

Rene Lorentsen, Team Norway skip, said: ”We beat the Silver and the bronze paralympic medallists Teams, Russia and GB — we are happy.” Both Norway and 3rd placed Switzerland go on to Lillehammer in two weeks to contest the World Qualifying event to gain a place in the World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2015 in February in Finland. Scotland have already qualified for this event.
