Vale of Leven 2 Johnstone Burgh 0
JOHNSTONE BURGH went down 2-0 to high-flying Vale of Leven despite a much-improved performance at Millburn Park on Saturday.
George Walker's men travelled into Alexandria looking to shake off the disappointment of a heavy 5-2 against Port Glasgow on Wednesday evening but
suffered defeat after two second-half goals from the Vale.
The Vale have yet to concede a goal in their League Cup campaign and were high on confidence after a 5-0 win against Greenock.
The Burgh were certainly not fazed by the form of the Vale and passed the ball around comfortably.
Boss Walker was pleased with the amount of
possession his side had by was left frustrated by the level of penetration from his squad.
Walker said: "We didn't have a great deal of chances, we just didn't create anything.
"We can take the pluses from the game now, we played the ball around better and had a lot of possession but at the end of the day we got beat 2-0.
"We were caught out for the goals, we gifted the first one but the second one was offside a mile, I felt.
"Their boy was on the goal-line and the ref gave it. But we just have to keep working away and get on with it. I thought it was a big improvement from the Port Glasgow game on Wednesday. We had a few trialists out that day and it looks like we'll give them another run out against Renfrew as well.
"We've got the Yoker game to look forward to now, Raymond Fallon was down there watching them and he thinks they look a better team from last year, there are a few new boys in there.
"We look like we might be struggling for players this week as well. David Brolly is suspended and Flannery is injured as well. There's also a few boys on holiday and things so we will be bringing in a few trialists."
The Burgh travel to Western Park tonight (Wednesday) to local rivals Renfrew in their last game of the League Cup and despite being unable to advance to the next round Walker insists it's not a pointless game.
He added: "We always try to win every game. We will see how we are this week regarding personnel and there may be a few new faces coming in but we're looking to the Renfrew game as well."
Kick off at Western Park tonight (Wednesday) is at 7pm and the Yoker game at Holm Park will be played at 2pm on Saturday.
BURGH: Wilson, Devlin, Ross, Cuddihy, McGarrigle, Donaghy, Flannery, Brolly (McIntyre 71), Fitzpatrick, Taylor (Dinnen 66), Smith. UNUSED SUBS: Lennon, Tagliasacchi, McLaughlan.
