Johnstone Burgh 4 Royal Albert 3

A LATE strike from substitute Craig Marr gave Johnstone Burgh their second-consecutive league win after a spirited display against Royal Albert on Saturday.

The former St Mirren trainee had only returned from working down south during the week to make his first appearance of the season at Gasworks Park and will be thrilled that his late contribution has propelled the Burgh into third place in the Central Second Division.

Colin Smith opened the scoring after a good move from the Burgh. Midfielder Gordon Chalmers slid the ball through to Smith and the forward made no mistake as he beat the oncoming keeper.

The Keanie Park side were pegged back when Royal Albert's Richardson netted the equalizer but the Burgh were soon back in front after the lively Chris Fitzpatrick

slotted home his side's second.

Chalmers, provider of the opener, added to his performance with a goal of his own shortly before half-time when he went through on the keeper and calmly dispatched the finish.

The Burgh were caught out after the interval as the Royal's McLaughlin and Gadis quickly levelled the scoring shortly before the hour mark.

It looked as though the three points were to be lost for the Burgh but a late substitution saw the young Craig Marr enter the fray.

Marr raced onto a Colin Smith flick-on to bag all three points with a neat finish with just five minutes left remaining.

The victory will be sure to delight the Burgh backroom staff and coach Eddie McKim thinks his side will fear no one as long as they play at the top of their game.

He said: "We're delighted, that's two wins on the trot now.

"I'm not too sure when the last time that happened was.

"I think that will go down as an inspired subsitution, bringing on Craig Marr, we'll certainly take it as one.

"We're making chances now and on Saturday we took four. If you don't create any chances then you can't win the game, that's what is pleasing about it now.

"Shettleston this Saturday is a hard game, they beat Benburb at the weekend but we should be fairly confident going there with two wins in a row.

"Everyboy's fit and they have all been good boys so there's no suspensions.

"We're playing football and there was a lot of good passes. We won't have any fears going into the Shettleston game provided we play the way we can."
