Johnstone Burgh...3 Lochee Harp...0
THE Burgh booked their place in the second round of the Emirates Junior Cup after Lochee Harp were blown away at Keanie Park on Saturday.
The Harp matched their hosts for effort but George Walker's team proved too much for the Dundee side as they progressed into this week's draw.
Despite a healthy win, the Burgh gaffer feels there is still more to come from his young charges and will now challenge them to really show their potential.
He said: "Overall we're quite happy to be into the next round but I don't think it was a good performance - our first touch and our passing was poor compared to what we can really play.
"You watch some of these young guys in training, their passing and movement is great, but there wasn't much of that today.
"We made five or six passes for the last goal and that's what we have to do - get the ball down and pass it.
"We're not a big side, but we're quick and we can play - if and when we want to."
Both sides were greeted with a chilling chorus of high winds and the home side soon stormed into an early lead in just the fourth minute.
Martin McIntyre's cross landed at the feet of Steven Fitzpatrick, who turned his shot beyond the keeper to send the Burgh on their way.
Colin Smith then doubled his side's lead from the spot after 27 minutes when Willie Stewart was tripped just inside the box.
Striker Sean Christie spearheaded the Lochee attack and would have grabbed a Scottish Cup goal had it not been for a few smart saves from keeper Fraser Wilson and a last-ditch challenge from defender Raymond Donaghy.
But any notion of a Lochee comeback ended when the visitors' colossal defender Steven Fotheringham was sent off for fouling Fitzpatrick when he was clear through on goal.
Substitute Craig Marr almost grabbed the killer third when his 83rd minute effort was well saved from keeper Kevin Fotheringham, with the rebound clipping the post.
The Burgh are making a habit of scoring late goals and midfielder Ross Perrie continued the trend as he steered McIntyre's low, driven cross beyond the keeper to seal a deserved win.
Midfielder McIntyre produced another impressive performance for the Burgh and while the has
experienced some Scottish Cup success with Clydebank last year, he insists he would rather be at Keanie Park.
He said: "Obviously with the experience last year I realised how good the cup was but I wasn't really involved as much.
"To be honest, I was more excited about playing here.
"The win meant a lot to the boys and I've heard how over the last couple of seasons that we haven't really performed in the Scottish Cup.
"Conditions weren't great but I think we can play better.
"The defence played really well, I've got to say, they held it together for us.
"I'd like another home game next, I like playing here and I've enjoyed my last two games."
