Johnstone Burgh:2 Arthurlie: 4
BURGH manager George Walker says he has no complaints following his side's defeat to Arthurlie in the West of Scotland Cup on Saturday.
The Barrhead side arrived at Keanie Park on the back of a huge win against Irvine Meadow but were made to work for their win by a spirited Johnstone Burgh, full of enterprise.
And despite a late capitulation, the Burgh gaffer will now be looking for more of the same determination over the next few weeks.
"I felt we did really well," said Walker. "The whole squad gave a really good performance, not just the starting 11 but the guys that came on also.
"We were very unfortunate but at the end of the day it's still a learning experience for some of these guys.
"I thought in the first half we were actually the better side and it was so close that even the referee thought it was going to go to penalties.
"We have a good squad of players ready to fight for the cause and if they continue to do that then they will reap the rewards."
Arthurlie took the lead early on when forward Joe Andrews turned his snap-shot past Fleming in goal with seven minutes gone.
Martin McIntyre quickly levelled for the Burgh when Neil Dinnen whipped in a corner for the former Clydebank midfielder to power his header past Kieran Cannon.
McIntyre almost put his side in front with a long range effort before the Premier League side struck again.
Defender James Lundie strolled out of defence before unleashing a vicious, long-range effort that flew past Fleming to restore the visitor's lead.
But again, the Burgh fought back and 15 minutes after the restart, Colin Smith pounced on the
dithering 'Lie backline before calmly slotting past Cannon.
Burgh's Ross Perrie then had a goal chopped off before Arthurlie dealt a hammer blow with 15 minutes remaining.
Former Burgh forward John McLay set up the in-form Andrews to bag his second of the game with a sweet, left-footed finish high into the corner of the goal.
The home side pushed for a third equaliser but the pressure came to nothing.
The visitors secured the win when Craig Malcolm fired home from 12-yards-out to see his side safely through the next round.
The Burgh will return briefly to league action this Saturday with the visit of Wishaw Juniors before the Vale of Clyde, Emirates Junior Cup clash the following weekend.
Both games kick off at 2pm.
