ERSKINE badminton star Rebekka Findlay is ready to make her mark on the international stage when she takes to the court for the Commonwealth Games.

Findlay makes up part of the 10 player side which will take on the cream of the Commonwealth at the Emirates Arena.

The 20-year-old will make her international debut in the competition when she lines up alongside experienced squad members such as former world silver medal winners Robert Blair and Imogen Bankier, who as a pair will rank amongst the favourites for the tournament’s mixed doubles.

The team event starts on July 23 with the final on July 28. The individual events run from July 29 until August 3, meaning badminton is played on every competition day at Glasgow 2014.

The team event will give promising young players like Findlay and Caitlin Pringle the opportunity to join the Glasgow 2014 action.

Christine Black, team manager, said: “We have a good blend of youth and experience in our squad.

“It is going to be a great challenge for the younger players and our top players like Robert and Imogen will be able to pass on their experience.

“The whole squad is preparing well and they will be ready to rise to the occasion.

“Playing on home turf is going to be a great inspiration for them and I am confident they will cope with the pressure of expectation.” Anne Smillie, BADMINTONscotland chief executive, added: “Our squad must be the envy of all Scotland’s badminton players.

“It will be an unforgettable experience for them to compete in a Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and I urge the Scotland fans to get right behind them throughout the 11 days of the badminton competition.

“All our players know the Arena from playing there in last November’s Scottish Open Grand Prix and we are hoping they will have some medals to show off when they play there again at this year’s Open in November.”
