KILBARCHAN AAC runners were out in force at Sunday’s Paisley 10k, putting in fine times against the best the field had to offer.

Around 1,700 runners took part in the race which was eventually won by Shettleston Harriers’ Tewolde Mengistaab in a time of 30 minutes 52 seconds but Kilbarchan followed close behind with Euan Gillham finishing a commendable fourth in 31.38.

Kilbarchan dominated the majority of the field with Gemma Rankin winning the women’s race in 35.52 and the club notching up victories in the mens and womens team awards.

The mens team included Euan, along with Russell Mountford and Callum Matthews while for the women, Gemma was well backed up Natalie Sharp and Maica Suarez.

In the 3k event, Sam McNair of Castlehead High School won ahead of Andrew MacAngus of Gryffe and Jack Scott of Castlehead in third.

First home for the girls was Kerry MacAngus of Gryffe with Leona Murray of Castlehead and Alisha Sivell of Gryfee in third.

Elsewhere, Jemma Reekie, Scottish under-17s 800m champion, travelled to Bedford to compete in the English Championships and was awarded with an excellent second place.

And at Aberfoyle, there was Scottish trials for the Home International Hill Race Championship.

Laura Stark won the under-16s race in 19.38 and will represent Scotland while Rona Tytler, who finished fourth in 21.31, is also hoping to be selected.
