STRATHGRYFFE pair Anna Daisley and Lee Wishart have been crowned the new Paisley and District tennis champions.

The Houston club juniors won the men’s and woman’s titles in convincing style last Saturday at the David Lloyd club in Renfrew.

Wishart, 17-years-old and the top seed and is also the current Scottish 18 and Under Closed Champion, beat his elder brother Robbie in the final which lasted just under an hour.

The unseeded older brother had advanced to the final with wins over two seeded players but was no match on the day to the solid hitting of his younger brother.

Later in the day Lee added the junior 18 and under title with a straight sets win over the Kilmacolm youngster Alexander Wilson.

Elsewhere, 15-year-old Anna was the hot favourite to retain her women’s title which she did without losing a single game against Renfrew player Holly Docherty.

Anna later won the mixed doubles title, partner Holly’s brother Scott to a final win over the David Lloyd pair of Tony Williamson and Jacqueline Fullerton.

The David Lloyd club were successful in the men’s double title with the new pairing of Gareth Ellor and Jonathan Willcox winning in three sets against clubmates Matt Dickie and Craig Russell.

Over 100 players competed in the 78th year of these popular championships. Watching Saturday’s finals were local Paisley veterans Jimmy Wilson, winner of the men’s title in 1949, and Alex Culloch who was men’s doubles champion 60 years ago and who won the men’s singles title on ten occasions.
