Matthew Dalrymple, from Lochwinnoch, travelled to West Virginia at the weekend to compete in the Under-16 Faldo Series Europe Grand Final.

The youngster produced a solid performance to finish 58th overall out of a field of 83.

Dalrymple carded a 77 in his opening round, followed up with an 84, and an 80 in the final round.

American Zachary Bachou was the eventual winner, seeing off his fellow countryman Simon Zach in a play-off for the title. Paul Kinnear of England finished in third.

Speaking before jetting out to America, Matthew said: “Going to the Grand Europe Golf Final in the States is a brilliant opportunity for me.

“I am excited about representing Scotland in the Under 16s in such a prestigious golfing event on the famous Old White Course at The Greenbrier, West Virginia.” Even qualifiying for the prestigous event was an achievement for Matthew, considering he only took up the sport three years ago. His quickfire success has seen him represent both Scotland and the Renfrewshire area on a national scale, and he played against the French team during the summer, where he fought off the French boys champion at North Berwick.

The Faldo Series was set up in 1996 by Sir Nick Faldo to nurture the next generation of golf champions. Over 7,000 young golfers aged between 12 and 21 took part this year in forty tournaments across 30 countries worldwide. World number one and four times major champion, Rory McIlroy is a previous Faldo Series winner.
