Burgh were in good form following their cup win in the Lady Darling Cup last week away to Inverkeithing Swifts, winning 2-1 in extra time.

The early exchanges were pretty even with Harmony Row failing to capitalise on some defensive errors by the Burgh at one end, and Burgh failing to convert some excellent chances at the other.

The breakthrough came after 20 minutes with an absolute cracker from midfielder Matt McStay, picking the ball up 30 yards from goal, with a drop of the shoulder he created space to get away from the Harmony defender and unleashed an unstoppable shot, looping over the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

It wasn’t long before Burgh went two up, following good sustained pressure the Burgh first came close with Euan Clark getting on the end of a cross-ball, hitting the post with a powerful header, Chris McCormick following up on the rebound to coolly slot The third goal came from intense pressure from the Burgh, this time defender Keiran Healy got in on the act to finish from close range with a delightful header to make the score 3-0 at half-time Harmony Row responded after the break applying early pressure. They came close after an uncharacteristic mistake in the Burgh defence led to a vicious strike from the Harmony forward which was equally well dealt with by Burgh goalkeeper Andrew Stark who made three tremendous saves to keep a clean sheet.

The Burgh came back into the game with 15 minutes remaining, this time a great run from midfielder by Alex Beattie taking on two defenders before slotting the ball wide to Dale McCormack who fired in an excellent cross, finding Fraser Williams eight yards out but his shot went wide. It was a similar situation that led to the Burgh’s fourth goal, this time Kieran Healy delivering an perfect cross and Fraser Williams making no mistake to fire the ball home from close range in what was ultimately the last kick of the ball.

An emphatic win for the Burgh over their local rivals. Next week more cup duty, this time entertaining Broomhill SC in the second round of the West of Scotland Cup at Johnstone Community Sports Hub, kick-off 1pm
