A TASTE of Bollywood has come to Renfrewshire.

Experts from Abhinaya Dance are staging dance classes as part of Paisley’s bid to become UK City of Culture in 2021.

People who go along to the Wynd Centre, in School Wynd, Paisley, can choose between two different disciplines – bharatanatyam and dancercise.

Bharatanatyam is one of the most popular forms of classical Indian dance.

Its style is noted for a fixed upper torso, legs bent or knees flexed out and spectacular footwork, combined with a sophisticated vocabulary based on gestures of hands, eyes and face muscles.

The dancercise class is a form of exercise that blends aerobics and dance moves with upbeat Bollywood music.

A spokesperson for the event organisers said: “Many people find dancercise to be more fun than traditional exercise because it is done to music and participants learn actual dance moves.”

The fun takes place on Monday, November 13, with further sessions on Monday, November 20.

Head along at 6pm for the hour-long bharatanatyam class.

This will be followed by dancercise from 7pm until 8pm.

The cost is £6 per class and everyone who goes along will be made welcome.
