NATURE lovers can enjoy a blooming great day out this weekend...by taking part in a snowdrop stroll.

The event is being staged at Finlaystone Country Estate, in Langbank, on Sunday, from 1pm until 2pm, and is part of the Scottish Snowdrop Festival.

Organised by garden tourism organisation Discover Scottish Gardens, the festival is supported by VisitScotland.

It runs until Sunday, March 11, with various sites displaying carpets of snowdrops – signalling the end of winter and the promise of spring.

Catherine Erskine, chair of Discover Scottish Gardens, said: “We are very lucky in Scotland to have a fantastic climate for snowdrops, with many species thriving here and creating stunning displays.”

Annique Armstrong, VisitScotland’s regional director, added: “Over the past decade, the Scottish Snowdrop Festival has grown to become an annual highlight, with the arrival of these dainty little flowers heralding spring is just around the corner.

“The festival provides a welcome boost for the local area during a traditionally quieter period of the year.”

The snowdrop stroll is a free event, although normal admission charges for Finlaystone apply.
