Father-of-two Adam Docherty attacked the 23-year-old, who can’t be named for legal reasons, in her toddler daughter’s bedroom.

A drunken Docherty struck at the woman’s flat in November 2013.

He denied raping the woman, claiming they had consensual sex after a night out to celebrate his 25th birthday.

But the jury at the High Court in Paisley convicted him of the violent sexual assault.

The court heard he smashed a door against his victim’s foot, shouted and swore at her, called her abusive names, pushed her against a bed frame and clamped his hand over her mouth as he raped her.

He was remanded in custody after being found guilty last month and returned to the dock this morning (Friday).

And when he appeared in court it emerged he still denied doing anything wrong on the night he raped the woman.

Docherty’s lawyer, Edith Forrest, also said he came from a good family and had a good work ethic, having always been employed since he left school.

The advocate said: “He maintains his denial of the offence. He has always been in employment.

“He lost his job at the shop where he was working when he was arrested for this offence and went out and sought further employment.” Dressed in a grey cardigan and black t-shirt bearded Docherty, of Paisley’s Saucel Crescent, showed no emotion as Judge Lord Bannatyne told him he was being caged for four years and six months.

He also placed him on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely - meaning he has to tell police every time he moves house.

The judge said: “Rape, by its very nature, is a serious crime and there can be only one disposal.” The sentence was backdated to last month, when Docherty, who has two children to two different women, was first locked up.

Docherty’s mum was in court to see him being jailed, and the court heard that his girlfriend is sticking by him.
