RENFREWSHIRE'S Erskine Bridge Hotel and Spa has welcomed a special guest celebrating a milestone birthday.

Belle McEwan was surprised by 60 guests who had gathered at the hotel on Saturday, December 19 to celebrate her 100th birthday.

Among the guests were some of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as her 89-year-old sister.

One of her grandson’s even travelled from Australia to join the festivities, which were organised by Belle’s daughter, Isobel.

During the private party, Belle received a special delivery on behalf of HRH Queen Elizabeth II in the form of her 100th birthday telegram.

For Belle, receiving a congratulatory card from The Queen to mark her milestone birthday was a very special part of her celebrations and the card took pride of place at the lunch table.

The delivery of the Queen's message was arranged by the Anniversaries Office, part of the Private Secretary's Office in the Royal Household, based at Buckingham Palace.

Belle is a familiar face to many Erskine residents, having lived in the town for 40 years.

She now resides in Rashielea’s LittleInch Care Home after suffering a stroke earlier this year.

Belle said: “I couldn’t have asked for a better surprise than this for my 100th birthday.

"I’m very lucky to have such wonderful friends and family. And it was, of course, an honour to receive my telegram from the Queen.

"It will take pride of place at home.

“The team at the hotel was wonderful and put on a beautiful spread. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself.”

Susan Craig, general manager at Erskine Bridge Hotel and Spa, added: “It has been an absolute pleasure and honour welcoming Belle and her friends and family to the hotel to celebrate such a milestone occasion.

"She’s a well-known face around the local area so we wanted to make sure she had a party she’ll never forget.”
