A PLANE travelling from Glasgow Airport to Dublin declared a mid-air emergency this morning.

The Ryanair flight made a u-turn back to Glasgow shortly after take-off when a customer became ill on board.

Nerea Otega Lopez from Madrid, Spain but currently living in Dublin was on the flight and praised the crew on board for the way the incident was handled.

The 27-year-old said: “I was in the first row so I couldn't see it. It was a woman in the 14th row or so.

“I heard the staff say that the woman wasn't feeling well so they asked the pilot to wait five minutes before departure and so he did it.

“After just 15 minutes the woman complained about stomach ache and the crew informed the pilot about it and decided to go back to Glasgow

“The crew on board was very nice to all the passengers every moment.”

A spokesman for Ryanair added: "This flight from Glasgow to Dublin returned to Glasgow shortly after take-off after a customer became ill on board.

"The crew called ahead to request medical assistance, the aircraft landed normally and the customer was met by medics upon arrival.

"The aircraft departed to Dublin a short time later. Ryanair apologised to all customers affected by this short delay.”

The flight flew over the Isle of Bute in the Firth of Clyde before looping over Great Cumbrae to reach the mainland.

It has been announced that the plane safely landed at Glasgow.
