PARENTS of six pupils have been told to keep their kids at home as police probe an incident outside a Paisley school.

Renfrewshire Council took the decisive action after a disturbance close to the school grounds on Wednesday.

Mobile phone footage showing pupils from Paisley Grammar School involved in a confrontation with two men was posted on the internet shortly after the incident.

The video was filmed in close proximity to the Glasgow Road school and has been viewed more than 90,000 times.

Renfrewshire Council moved to reassure parents in the wake of the incident which has resulted in the arrest of a 37-year-old man.

The authority issued a statement this afternoon as police investigations continue.

A Renfrewshire Council spokesman said: “We can assure parents and the school community that we are treating this incident very seriously and will not accept any repetition.”

He went on to say that staff immediately called the police and acted “quickly and decisively” when they became aware of the incident on Crossflat Crescent close to its junction with Clarence Street.

He said that it was, “important that our pupils do not get involved in violent behaviour which is unacceptable and which endangers their own safety as well as others.”

The statement continued: “We have asked the parents of six senior pupils to keep them at home as the school cooperates with a police investigation.

“Senior staff have visited all classes in the school to ensure pupils are aware of the behaviour and conduct expected of them.

“That includes issues such as comments made on social media.

“The school aims to instil values where young people can make informed and safe choices about their own behaviour.

“The vast majority do that and we will continue to emphasise those values to all our pupils.”

A police spokeswoman said: "Around 12.40pm on Wednesday, March 30, police were called to a report of a disturbance outside a school in Paisley.

"Officers attended and a 37-year-old man was arrested and detained in connection with an alleged breach of the peace."

The man is expected to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court in due course.
