AN ADVENTUROUS romantic took the leap of love by proposing to his partner 150 feet above the ground.

It was love at first swing for Colin Nicholson, 31, from Bridge of Weir and Zac Louden, 20, from Edinburgh who first set eyes on each other as they swung through the tree tops on their first date last summer at Go Ape Aberfoyle in Queen Elizabeth Forest Park.

And after a whirlwind romance the couple are now living together in Johnstone.

The pair first met on Facebook through mutual friends and when it came to marking the important milestone in their relationship, Zac decided to create a special proposal for his other half with a zip down memory lane.

Zac organised a trip to Go Ape Aberfoyle last month, where Colin flew down the final 400 metre long zip wire to find a large "Will You Marry Me?" sign and Zac down on one knee as he popped the question.

Zac said: “We were trying to think of somewhere unusual for our first date and thought it would be great to go to Go Ape.

“We’d both been before and thought it’d be a place where we could have fun and not take ourselves too seriously.

“We’d been talking about getting engaged for a few months and had picked out some rings, so when it came to deciding where to propose, I thought Go Ape would be perfect.

“Being up in the trees I was so worried that I was going to drop the rings.

“As if a zip wire isn’t nerve wracking enough without the added pressure of proposing – but it was worth it to see the look on Colin’s face as he came flying down the zip wire.

“The whole day was perfect and all the staff were such a great help in making it all go to plan.”

Colin added: “We were about to go on the last zip wire and I knew something was strange as Zac was insisting that I went last.

“At about half way along the zip I could see a huge sign and Zac down on one knee and I immediately clicked what was happening.

“I was completely shocked and a little embarrassed as there were so many people all clapping and cheering.

“We love going hill walking and doing outdoor activities, so it was an amazing proposal which really summed up our relationship.”

Accounts manager Colin and customer service advisor Zac recently moved in together and the pair have a bucket list of things they would like to do over the next few years.

Top of the list is a holiday to Disney World in 2017 to celebrate their engagement before they start planning their dream wedding at The Vu wedding destination on the water in Bathgate for the following year.

Gordon Cochrane-Yuill, site manager at Go Ape Aberfoyle, said: “Zac called us in advance to ask if we could help set up the proposal.

“We made sure no-one else came down the zip wire and everything went like clockwork – it was brilliant and all our other customers and staff were cheering. We’d like to congratulate Colin and Zac on their engagement and are thrilled they chose our Aberfoyle course for their adventurous proposal.

“Go Ape’s all about having fun and living life adventurously, which makes it a great place for an exciting date that’s sure to leave a lasting impression.”
