PUPILS from Johnstone High School pulled out all the stops as they welcomed elderly visitors for afternoon tea.

Residents from Silverline Care residential homes, Ranfurly and Cochrane, visited the school on Tuesday, April 19 for an afternoon of intergenerational bonding.

The visit was planned as part of the students’ Dynamic Youth Award, recognising the contributions and achievements of young people over the age of ten.

The students engaged with the residents who enjoyed musical entertainment over tea, coffee and cakes.

Lynne Hollywood, acting head teacher of Johnstone High School said: “The inter-generational work going on with Miss Wilson’s second year class and Ranfurly Care Home, supported by the staff at Silverline is an excellent example of the Johnstone community working together to support each other.

“It was heartening to watch the residents be welcomed into school." to have cake and coffee with our young people and be entertained by some of our talented pupils from the music department.

“Our pupils benefitted from the experience and enjoyed some old fashioned story-telling, particularly from the resident who had served in World War two.

“We hope to develop this link in the future and would be delighted if Silverline would consider some work experience placements for our pupils in the next few years.”

Margaret Rooney, care home manager at Ranfurly said: “We were thrilled to be able to engage with the students at Johnstone High School and were delighted to see how much time and effort they had put in to giving our residents a really great day.

“The residents and pupils really enjoyed interacting with each other.”
