STAFF at Barrhead Foundry have been presented with a certificate highlighting a House of Commons Early Day Motion congratulating them on winning a prestigious national award.

East Renfrewshire MP Kirsten Oswald won support from Parliamentarians from all over the UK when she put down the Early Day Motion after the library won a 2016 Edge Award.

The accolade recognised the outstanding building, layout and use of targeted space for the library service.

The MP’s motion applauded the library’s “innovative and inviting use of targeted library space”.

Ms Oswald visited Barrhead Foundry library to present the Early Day Motion certificate to East Renfrewshire Culture Leisure board member, Councillor Mary Montague and the organisation’s chief executive, Anthony McReavy.

The MP said: “I was delighted to present this Early Day Motion to the Barrhead Foundry Team, in recognition of their achievement in winning the prestigious Edge Award for the innovative way they provide their service.

“The positive and proactive work of the staff team, coupled with the fantastic use of space makes the a foundry a real asset to the local community.”

Mr McReavy added: “This is a fitting tribute to our creative, dedicated and hard-working staff who’ve made Barrhead Library such an inviting place for people to come to.

“More people than ever before are visiting the library and that’s also testament to their great efforts.

“Our aim is to provide the very best library service and facilities for the people of East Renfrewshire making all our libraries an attractive and welcoming place for people of all ages to visit.”

“That this House congratulates the team at the library at Barrhead Foundry on winning a prestigious The Edge Award for the innovative way that it provides its service to the public; applauds the innovative and inviting use of targeted library space within the Foundry.

“Commends the East Renfrewshire library staff for their excellent work in engaging with all sectors of their local community and notes that this award recognises both the modern and engaging physical space, and the very high standard of library service which the staff provide to the people Barrhead and East Renfrewshire.”
