A RENFREWSHIRE man has teamed up with the star of hit TV series Outlander to help a youngster with cerebral palsy.

Andy McAlindon, who works as an extra on the show, joined Scott Kyle to promote the effort to raise funds for six-year-old Holly McLeod through the Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk.

Swapping broadswords for boots, they were joined by other extras who will take on a 23-mile mighty stride in the Glasgow Kiltwalk on April 30.

The group, who call themselves ‘Paca,’ which is Gaelic for ‘The Pack,’ were touched by Holly’s plight, knowing that she needs life-changing surgery in America to help her walk.

Another Outlander extra, 47-year-old Jon Dan Duncan, became aware of Holly’s health issues and jumped at the chance to help her family raise the vital funds.

Speaking about how the Paca came to be, Andy, a 39-year-old electrician from Kilmacolm, said: “We worked as extras during series two and three of Outlander and we just clicked. We had so much fun together and forged a strong friendship.

“Working on the Outlander set sparked our interest in Scottish history and we started to look into it in more detail. I took things a step further and acquired the full Jacobite costume, including a five-yard plaid, basket hilt broadsword, dirk and targe.

“After this, the rest of the guys did the same and the Paca was born.”

Other Paca members are Grant McGregor, Jay Graham and Barry Stewart.

Outlander star Scott, who plays Ross in the sci-fi series, said: “I’m so proud of the guys. Getting their Jacobite gear on and walking all that way to raise money for such a worthwhile cause is commendable.

“They’re all busy with day jobs as well as their passion for all things Outlander, so setting aside time to train and raise money for little Holly McLeod is really something.”

For every £1 raised by the walkers, £1.10 will go to charity. This comes after The Hunter Foundation pledged that 110 per cent of all fundraising at each of the four 2017 Kiltwalk events will go to charity.
