A MAN has appeared in court charged with stabbing another man after an altercation on a bus.

Kenneth Kerr, 39, is said to have attacked John Gallagher in Neilston Road, Paisley, on Saturday morning.

Police launched an investigation amid reports that Mr Gallagher, also 39, had been stabbed on a McGill's bus at around 11.15am.

During the probe, Kerr was arrested and held in police custody.

He appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court today, represented by solicitor advocate Bob Mitchell, to face a single charge over the alleged incident.

Prosecutors claim Kerr carried out a life-threatening assault on Mr Gallagher and did "repeatedly strike him on the body with a knife or similar implement" at 19 Neilston Road.

It is alleged the attack left Mr Gallagher badly hurt, scarred for life and placed his life at risk.

Kerr, of Linnwell Crescent, Paisley, made no plea during the behind-closed-doors hearing and was remanded in custody.

Sheriff Craig Harris continued the case for prosecutors to investigate further.

No future court dates have been set but Kerr is expected to make a second appearance in connection with the case next week.
