AN acting headteacher at a Johnstone primary school has been praised by inspectors for winning the trust and respect of pupils since taking on the role.

Education Scotland carried out an inspection at Fordbank Primary School and Carol McCormick was complimented for her “effective leadership” during a period of change.

Mrs McCormick, who was previously depute head teacher, took up the role in December following the departure of Tom McCormick.

The school was deemed be “very good” in ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion by inspectors and was rated ‘good’ across all other areas.

Her Majesty’s Inspector Jacqueline Gallagher said in her report: "Staff and the local community have confidence in the leadership across the school.

"During her tenure at the school the acting headteacher has won the trust and respect of children, parents and staff as both depute head teacher and latterly in her current role."

The report also said teaching was “good”, but added assessment could be used “more effectively” at the school to better support and challenge pupils during lessons.
