FAMILIES devastated by the impending closure of two Renfrewshire day centres can breathe a sigh of relief after it was announced they will stay open until the end of April.
West Lane Gardens, in Johnstone, and Whitehaugh Day Centre, in Paisley, were due to shut at the end of this month after Capability Scotland, which runs both sites, said it could no longer subsidise services.
The buildings are owned by Renfrewshire Council and leased to Capability Scotland to provide services to adults with learning disabilities.
Renfrewshire’s Health and Social Care Integrated Joint Board agreed last month that the charity would continue to run the centres until the end of January, but that has now been extended until the end of April.
The council will meet the shortfall in running costs during this period.
Councillor Jacqueline Cameron, chair of the board, said: “Service users have told us how important day services are to them. We will continue to work to provide a tailored service that meets the outcomes that matter to them.”
