A BRASS band was hailed in Holyrood after it won the first section title at the Scottish Championships.
Johnstone Band clinched the prize at the prestigious contest in Perth last month, and Renfrewshire South MSP Tom Arthur lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament to congratulate the musicians on their achievement.
The motion said: “The Parliament congratulates the Johnstone Band on winning the prestigious first section title at the annual Scottish Brass Band Association Scottish Championship in Perth and notes that this victory will see the band be promoted to the Championship section, which is the top level of brass banding in the UK.
“It notes that the musicians will now represent Scotland at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain and further notes that the band was the first to be presented with the Andy Smith Cup for the band conductor of the winning group in the first section, and that Laura Mullen was awarded the Thomas Macaulay Cup for being the best horn in the section.
“The Parliament wished the band continued success and recognises its dedication and commitment.”
The band will compete at the National Championships in Cheltenham in September.
