WARM sunshine was a welcome guest as people of all ages gathered in Houston for a special celebration.

The fun took place at Abbey Nursery, where the summer fun day had a royal theme.

Inspired by the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, staff laid on a host of stalls and activities which gave a nod to the Windsor nuptials.

Several local businesses played their part by making donations to the annual event.

Among them was AR Inflatables, which agreed to provide a bouncy castle with ball pit for the children to enjoy.

Nursery manager Beth Morris said she was delighted to see so many members of the local community rallying round to support the event.

She added: “There was lots going on and we were lucky to receive such generous donations from local businesses.

“We had fabulous face painting and royal wedding tattoos, it was a brilliant day.”

As well as browsing the stalls which included a tombola and royal wedding-themed home baking, families were also able to get competitive by taking part in a series of races and sporting challenges throughout the day.

In the afternoon, those in attendance were treated to a hog roast, alongside traditional games such as hook-a-duck.

Organisers were pleased to raise a total of £900 at the event, with all of the proceeds donated to nursery funds.
