Bishopton Parish Church is celebrating a funding boost from SUEZ Communities Trust for the Gas Supply Pipe Renewal project.

The Church of Scotland congregation was boosted by the £6,000 grant that will go towards essential repairs on the heating and hot water system in the Church.

Failure to undertake the crucial repairs on the gas supply pipe would have rendered the facilities unusable for the rest of the year.

Property Convenor for the Church, Ian Earnshaw, said: “The Church is delighted to receive this assistance from SUEZ Communities Trust, and also for the support of Renfrewshire Council in providing the Contributing Third Party funding.

"The Parish Church is responsible for the costs of running and maintaining the Cornerstone, a facility much used by both Church organisations and many other community organisations.

"This funding for essential repairs helps us to maintain our planned expenditure on promoting and maintaining community activities in Bishopton."

Marek Gordon, Chairman of SUEZ Communities Trust added: “SUEZ Communities Trust provides funding awards through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund – an important source of funding which came into effect in April 2015.

"The scheme is linked to the Scottish Landfill Tax and encourages landfill site operators to provide contributions to approved bodies, who can then pass the funds onto community and environmental projects.

"We were delighted to be able to offer funding to Bishopton Parish Church.”
