A LEADING retailer is to create scores of jobs by opening new stores in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.

Supermarket giant Lidl has confirmed that outlets in Paisley and Giffnock will open their doors before the end of this year.

It is expected that up to 40 jobs will be created at each of the stores, including roles in operations, maintenance, logistics and office support.

The Paisley store will be based in Renfrew Road, on the site of a former ten-pin bowling complex, and represents a multi-million pound investment in the area as part of a new retail development.

Lidl has committed to building a 2,000m² store that will include a bakery, as well as parking for cars and bicycles.

The new Giffnock branch will be opened on the site of the former Whole Foods store, in Fenwick Road, and will also include a bakery.

Gordon Rafferty, Lidl UK’s regional head of property, said: “We are delighted to be opening new stores in Paisley and Giffnock, marking another milestone in our ambitious expansion programme.

“We’ve seen incredible demand for Lidl stores across Scotland and look forward to offering our quality products and incredible value to shoppers throughout these areas.

“We are firmly committed to helping boost the local economy by creating new jobs and working with local suppliers in the development of our new stores.”

The German firm is also opening new branches in Dumbarton, East Kilbride and Edinburgh.

Ross Millar, regional director for Scotland at Lidl UK, said: “We’re delighted to be in a position to create new jobs and welcome more colleagues into the Lidl family.

“We urge anyone interested in working with us to keep an eye out for jobs on our careers site.”
