A BRAVE teenager who was tormented by bullies is using the power of music to prove love can triumph over hate.

Taylor Gilmour, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, was forced to move schools after cruel youngsters subjected her to shocking abuse.

In one incident, masked schoolkids pelted her house with eggs.

However, 17-year-old Taylor is determined to put that behind her and be a role model for others with Asperger’s.

This weekend, the talented singer, who is a member of the Paisley-based McCallum School of Music, will perform a fundraising gig at the Traveller’s Rest, in Neilston.

Proceeds will be donated to the Include Me 2 Club, which is based in Barrhead and supports people with additional support needs and disabilities.

Taylor said: “My mum is a health worker and had said that Include Me 2 helps lots of people and encouraged me to go along.

“I first got involved in volunteering there in September and it is a great place.

“It has really helped me and now I am trying to be a role model for others, starting with giving something back by doing the show this Friday.

“I’m about to go into my final year at school and I wanted to do something like this as it’s around one year on from me having to move, so I would like to be able to show everyone who has supported me where I am now and that I have really come on.”

Taylor’s experience at the hands of the bullies led to her moving from St Luke’s High, in Barrhead, to Williamwood High, in Clarkston.

More than 200 people are expected to head to Neilston for Friday’s gig, including supporters from both Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.

Taylor, from Barrhead, will be joined on stage by three of her fellow students from the Paisley music school – Talia Webb, Rachel Montgomery and Lewis Watt.

Her proud mum Margaret and Include Me 2 Club founders Ashley and Paul McIlvenny will also be there to offer support.

Taylor added: “Our teachers from McCallum are coming along and quite a few others from Paisley as well.

“Everyone has been extremely supportive of this and I’d like to thank Dolce Capelli, in Barrhead, and the Traveller’s Rest, who have made donations as well.”

Friday’s show takes place from 9pm until midnight.
