A KNOCK on your door from the boys in blue isn’t often good news...but, for one police-obsessed youngster, it was a dream come true.

Luke Kennedy, who attends Woodlands Primary, in Linwood, was amazed when community officers Innes Walsh and Gordon Aitken turned up and allowed him to try on their kit and radios.

Ten-year-old Luke had sent a letter to local officers to ask if he could have a chat and was over the moon when they answered his call in person.

The primary seven pupil has been obsessed with the police for years and has set his sights on a career spent putting bad guys away.

Luke’s proud parents Lorna, 48, and Ian, 49, said the visit meant so much to him, as he is aspiring to be an officer.

“He was just over the moon,” added Lorna. “Luke has loved the police for years and, ever since he was four, has been dressing up as a cop.

“Everywhere we go on holiday, he always asks to get his photo taken with the local police. From London to Paris, he seems to be ticking them all off.

The Gazette:

Luke loves to have his picture taken with cops wherever he goes

“We can’t even go to Braehead without him wanting to get his photo taken.

“When the two officers turned up at the door, he was just starstruck.

“They let him play with the radio and try on uniform and talked him through their daily routine.

“He was just so happy to see them.”

Lorna said cops at Johnstone have now invited Luke to visit the local police station to meet the rest of their team.

She added: “Luke just loves the whole idea of being able to help people and caring for others.

“Thank goodness he’s that way inclined.

“Innes and Gordon were so nice and even recognised Luke when they saw him later that week in Linwood.

“We can’t wait to take him to the station so he can see them again.”
