A FORMER burger flipper cooked up a winning recipe to taste victory in the 2008 series of Masterchef: The Professionals.
Derek Johnstone, who once worked at Burger King, beat 26 other chefs to the title on the BBC Two show.
The Erskine chef was crowned the winner by Gregg Wallace and Michel Roux Jnr.

Derek, 25, said at the time: “I’m so pleased to have won the competition and, as far as my career is concerned, it has encouraged me to fulfil all my dreams.”
In the final stage of the challenge, Derek and the remaining two chefs had to cook a three-course meal for 30 of the best chefs in Europe, as well as three former Michelin inspectors.56

After winning the title, Derek was offered a job by Michel Roux Jnr, working at his restaurant Le Gavroche, in London.
