It was all hands to the pump for firefighters at the weekend...but not in the way their job usually demands.
Local heroes scrubbed away at making motors look shiny and new at Renfrew fire station as they supplied a car washing service to raise cash for The Fire Fighters Charity.
The worthy cause, celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, is entirely funded through donations from the fire community and public and supports current and ex-firefighters by offering rehabilitation from physical and psychological problems, nursing, recuperation and advice.
Graeme Morrow, watch manager, said: “There was a fantastic turnout for the event and we raised a total of £907, which is great.
“We had cars queuing up outside all day. I’ve got no idea how many we got through.
“It’s something we try to do once a year for the Fire Fighters Charity, which does great work with people if they need counselling or rehabilitation.”
Around five firefighters were on duty, with another five volunteering to help out with the washing.
The Fire Fighters Charity supports thousands of people each year, with demand continuously rising.
It helps people who have suffered strokes, injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and more.
