A RENFREWSHIRE politician welcomed residents into his constituency office last week to enjoy coffee and cake in aid of a cancer charity.

Countless events were held across the country on Friday as part of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in support for Macmillan Cancer Care.

And, for the third year, Derek Mackay, MSP for Renfrewshire North and West, hosted a coffee morning at the Renfrew office, welcoming visitors to join him for a cup of tea, a slice of cake and some good company, while helping to raise funds for a good cause.

This year, as well as indulging in some hot beverages and sweet treats, the guests – who included local MP Mhairi Black – also took part in games to raise funds, including “pin the cherry on the cake”, blindfolded.

Mr Mackay said: “As always, it is great to support Macmillan Cancer Support and their annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. This year we raised just over £280 for the charity, and I want to thank the local constituents, councillors and Mhairi Black MP who all popped in for a cup of tea and some cake.”

A coffee morning was also held over at the Preserve and Protect garage in Johnstone.

The first World’s Biggest Coffee Morning was held in 1991, when 2,600 people registered to hold events. Since then it has raised more than £60 million for Macmillan Cancer Support.
