COMMUNITY cops and youngsters gave crime the boot in a football tournament in Linwood.

Kids from the town’s East Fulton, Our Lady of Peace and Woodlands Primary Schools all took part at the On-X Sports Centre, as local officers looked to develop positive relationships with pupils in a bid to deter youth crime.

And they were joined by teams from Houston Primary and St Fillan’s Primary, both in Houston, and Bridge of Weir Primary.

It was the second year the six-a-side tournament had been hosted, and Inspector Cassie Glass, based in Johnstone, said it is becoming an important day in the calendar.

She said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to all the sponsors and to PC Brian Dick and PC Martin Norwood for putting this tournament together.

“This event is a vital part of our community work, showing my officers are friendly, approachable and here to help.”
