Three schools were trashed by cruel vandals in just one week a decade ago.

Arkleston and Newmains primaries, in Renfrew, along with Kilbarchan Primary, all suffered from broken windows and were covered in ugly graffiti in one 24-hour period of mindless destruction.

An insider at Arkleston Primary said: “We had to clean up the mess before the teachers and pupils arrived in the morning.”

Education bosses were keen to point out they had made progress in reducing attacks on schools during the summer holidays.

A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said at the time: “We’d urge anyone with any knowledge of these incidents to contact the police.

“However, there have been recent positive developments in reducing vandalism.

“During the summer holidays, vandalism against Renfrewshire schools was cut by more than 50 per cent.”
