Young people across Renfrewshire are being encouraged to ‘Turn Up and Play’ as the popular Street Stuff programme returns for the October school holidays.

Football, gaming and more will be available for those aged between eight and 16 at venues in Johnstone, Linwood, Renfrew and Paisley.
And a free meal will be provided at every session to ensure youngsters are fuelled up to take part.

Councillor Marie McGurk, convener of Renfrewshire’s communities, housing and planning policy board, is hoping parents will encourage their kids to get involved.

She said: “The October holidays are the perfect opportunity for young people to try a new sport, make new friends and keep active at our Street Stuff clubs.

“Our brilliant team of coaches and volunteers will help keep them busy every day and, whether they’re a footballer or gamer, I’m sure they’ll find something they’ll enjoy.

“Don’t forget that a free hot and healthy meal is provided at each session, as we know the activities can make them work up an appetite.”

The McMaster Centre, in Johnstone, will host a range of activities between the hours of 1.30pm and 4.30pm each afternoon from Monday, October 15, until Friday, October 19.

There will also be games in the hall at Linwood High School between these times.

And football is on offer at the astro pitches at both St James Primary School, in Renfrew, and Gleniffer High School, in Paisley, also from 1.30pm until 4.30pm from October 15 to 19.

The fifth venue taking part in the Street Stuff programme is the indoor dome at St Mirren’s football stadium, where activities will be on offer between 1pm and 5pm from October 16 to18.

Consent forms must be completed by all participants and these can be filled out online in advance.

Street Stuff is a diversionary project run in partnership between Renfrewshire Council, Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Engage Renfrewshire and St Mirren Football Club.
