TWO local wrestling stars have taken the custard gunge to raise money for St Vincent's Hospice.

Real-life Johnstone couple, Stevie Boy and WOS Women's Champion Kay Lee Ray took were doused with a whopping 30 servings of the yellow dessert as part of the Custard Challenge for Hospice Care Week.

Focusing on the theme of “I heart my hospice”, Hospice Care Week 2018 aims to raise the profile and encourage discussion around the important role they play communities across the UK.

With first-hand experience of the care offered by St. Vincent’s, the duo volunteered to help out in whatever way they could.

Stevie Boy said: “St. Vincent’s holds a very special place in my heart, they looked after my mum before she passed, so I know first-hand how important everything they do is, and the difference this makes.

"This year is their 30th Anniversary, and I can’t imagine how many families they have helped through difficult times.

"If I can do anything to help raise awareness and give something back, I’m happy to. Even if that does mean getting a bucket of custard poured over my head.”

A specialist provider of palliative and Hospice care for people and families affected by life-limiting conditions from all across Renfrewshire, St. Vincent’s are asking people to take on a “30 Challenge” as part of their anniversary celebrations, to help raise vital funds for their services.

Kay Lee Ray, the first ever female to hold a championship on ITV wrestling and originally from Paisley, said: “One of the really heart-warming things about being a part of WOS is all the messages of support we have been sent from fans saying how much fun they have had watching the show or how much they’ve enjoyed watching us.

"In a way, it kind of gives us a responsibility to be a role model, especially for children and young people, so I think it’s important that we show how important it is to give something back and support charity.”

The two currently star in recently rebooted series of ITV's WOS Wrestling, which returned to television in the UK for the first time since the 1980s.

Kate Lennon, chief executive of St Vincent's Hospice, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Stevie and Kay Lee have decided to take part in our 30th Anniversary Celebrations in such a fantastic, fun, way, and we cannot thank them enough for their support.

"To have the involvement of two such young, energetic, and high profile members of our community is incredible, and goes a long way in continuing to help us raise awareness and vital funds for our services.

“As we celebrate Hospice Care Week 2018, we are actively encouraging as many people as possible to get involved and help us continue to deliver the vital care that we offer to people from all walks of the community every single day. Once again, on behalf of all of us at St. Vincent’s, thank you.”
