There were cheers all round at a Bridge of Weir pub at the weekend as it hosted a fundraising event for a community group.

The Gryffe Inn laid on a day of activities to raise money for Brighter Bridge of Weir – a voluntary group which aims to improve the appearance of the local area.

Those in attendance at the Main Street pub were able to enjoy a selection of delicious home-baked treats, as well as tea and coffee, with a cake decorating station set up especially to keep youngsters entertained.

A number of local businesses played their part by generously donating prizes for a fundraising raffle.

Cash was also raised through a tombola.

The fun event was organised by Alison Turner and pub worker Lorna McPhee, who wanted to fundraise for the Brighter Bridge of Weir group to help members continue their impressive efforts to make sure the village looks blooming marvellous.

Lorna said: “The group is made up of volunteers who look after the area and keep it tidy.

“We just wanted to help raise money towards more plant pots and things to help brighten up the area.”

And thanks to the generosity of those who headed along to the fundraiser on Saturday, the area is likely to benefit from more than a few plant pots, as the total raised on the day was an impressive £1,004.

“We were really pleased with the amount raised,” Lorna added.
