An investigation has been launched after sewage was seen spilling out of manholes in Bridge of Weir.

Scottish Water and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) have both been alerted to the ongoing problem amid fears it is polluting the Pow Burn.

Councillor James MacLaren, who represents the village on Renfrewshire Council, said: “It is very disappointing this continues to be an issue. That is why I immediately contacted Scottish Water on behalf of residents and local business owners, who have been hit with this problem in the past.

“I am pleased they have taken urgent action to investigate.”
Scottish Water said it has carried out a full clean-up of the area and arranged for repairs.

A spokesperson added: “We were made aware of flooding in Main Street, Bridge of Weir. We carried out a full clean-up of the area and have arranged for repair work to be carried out on the nearby footpath.

“This matter is being investigated by Scottish Water’s flooding investigation team.”

A spokesman for SEPA said: “We are aware of the issue and are investigating what impact, if any, there has been on the Pow Burn.

“We will be liaising with Scottish Water to ensure any issues with their network are resolved.”
