KIND-HEARTED friends and family have raised more than £10,000 in less than a week to support the loved ones of a Johnstone woman who was killed in a road accident.

Mum-of-two Caroline Nelson, 45, was involved in the smash just weeks after receiving radiotherapy sessions for Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Tragically, the former Johnstone High pupil died from her injuries.

Devastated friends and relatives have joined together to support Caroline’s ex-husband Sandy and her two young children.

In just five days, the GoFundMe page raised £10,854 – way beyond the original target of £1,000.

The page was created by Kate McManus-Coyle, who has asked friends of Caroline and Sandy to support the family at this difficult time.

She wrote: “As most of you now know, Caroline was tragically taken from us in a car accident on Monday 8th October.

“Unfortunately, at painful times like this, the bills keep coming in. The family are facing the funeral costs and were in the middle of moving houses, which itself brings its own costs.

“We would like you to, instead of flowers and cards, consider a wee donation to help Sandy and the boys along over the coming weeks.”

Caroline worked as a teacher at Parklands School, in Helensburgh, having recently moved from Johnstone to Arrochar with her sons, aged just six and eight.

Her Vauxhall Meriva was involved in a crash in the Daligan area of Argyll and Bute on the morning of October 8.

Police are continuing to appeal for information about the tragedy and anyone who has information is asked to call officers on 101.

Among those who have supported the online fundraising drive in Caroline’s honour are staff at popular Glasgow pub The Drum and Monkey.

In a message on the GoFundMe page, a pub spokesperson wrote: “Our condolences go to all the family at this difficult time.”
