A MAN who is accused of having a gun and drugs in his home has been given a trial date.

Gerald Green, 45, is said to have been in possession of an air rifle and cannabis resin at a property in Mossneuk Drive, Paisley.

Prosecutors claim he had a barrel-cocking, spring-operated airgun,  on July 4.

Green is also accused of being in possession of class-B drugs on the same date.

The case called for the first time at Paisley Sheriff Court in August, by way of an undertaking, and was continued for a psychiatric assessment to be carried out.

Green was released on bail, with a special condition he is not allowed to obtain or possess any firearm or ammunition.

The case has called several times since then as the psychiatric reports had not yet been prepared. But, when proceedings called in court last week, defence solicitor Paul Lynch said the assessment had been carried out.

He added: “I am now in a position to tender a plea of not guilty to both charges on behalf of Mr Green.”

Sheriff Moira MacKenzie continued matters until January for a trial to take place.
