COMMUNITY spirit was on the menu at the Big Boys’ Brigade Brunch in Bishopton as more than £1,000 was raised for the youth organisation.

As part of Scotland’s Year of Young People, the 1st Bishopton Company took the lead by inviting locals round for a bite to eat.

Working with Bishopton Parish Church and the Girls’ Brigade, the youngsters provided soup and snacks for guests young and old.

Coinciding with the anniversary of BB founder William Alexander Smith’s birthday, the Big BB Brunch aimed to bring generations together.

As well as the food on offer, the St John’s Scotland volunteers held a workshop on how to deliver CPR and use the newly installed defibrillator.

Steven Henderson, company captain and BB member for nearly 40 years, hailed the day as “a huge success.”

He added: “We’ve never been so busy.”

The Anchor section meets on Mondays, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, with the Juniors meeting from 6.45pm to 8.45pm. The Company section meets on Fridays, from 7pm to 9.30pm.

All are welcome.
