A MALE nurse who was caught with indecent images of children has been struck off the register.

Stewart Taylor downloaded hundreds of indecent images of kids at his home in Paisley and then shared them online.

He admitted the charges and was jailed for more than three years, as well as being placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.

Taylor has now been dealt the most severe sanction by nursing regulators.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) was shown a letter from Police Scotland which told how officers acting on a warrant seized several laptops from Taylor’s home which contained images of children being abused.

It was stated there was no evidence that Taylor had shown insight, remorse or remediation.

In its written judgement, the NMC said: “Nothing less than a striking off order would be sufficient to protect patients or to maintain public confidence in the profession.

"The panel recognised the likely impact of such an order on Mr Taylor upon his release from prison, including financial hardship, but concluded that Mr Taylor’s interests were substantially outweighed by the need to protect the public and to uphold the public interest.

"Accordingly, the panel determined that a striking off order was the appropriate and proportionate sanction."
